General information:
This program is designed to dramatically improve corporate communication and
productivity, by giving people access to the information they need to do
their job more effectively. Features include:
* Online look-up of people by name, phone number, location, employment status,
department, special treatment of calls, alternate phone number etc.
* Online creation, updating, viewing and management of messages.
* Generates reports based on various criteria, including phone directories
with the option of being sent to printer, screen, or disk file for
later processing.
* Pop-up color menus, scrolled look-up displays, and context-sensitive help.
* Built-in Multi-user/LAN support-includes full security system, with
multiple access levels, and encrypted files.
* Separate system administrator program.
* Online look-up of misc. phone numbers, such as general voice or FAX
numbers for various departments, other commonly called companies, etc.
* Copying (cloning) of records, to help build the database faster.
You can make a single model record, and make many copies, and
change what you want.
* Multiple add mode, so that you can make repeated adds without having
to keep depressing the INS key.
* Online reference information library gives people a place for common
reference information.
* Single key database add confirmations.
* Embedded overlay design uses less main memory, and allows use in a
"PATH", so several departments can use the same copy, with discrete
user tables, message bases, etc.
* Online calendar/appointment manager with auto-purge mode.
Lets you pull up a full screen calendar, and step thru, the months, select
particular dates, and enter appointment information (24 hours in 1/2 hour
increments), pull up notes for the day and lets you print them.
The full screen calendar automatically displays the number of appointment
entries, and the system automatically deletes appointment information after
31 days.
* Contact Manager database to keep track of clients, etc. Lets you store
information about clients and friends, including company, address,
phone, alternate phone, E-mail info, comments, free-form memo info,
and more. Also generates reports, and mailing labels.
* All general files (with the exception of the user id file) are
transferrable to the standalone/laptop version of the product
(to obtain an evaluation copy of the product return the form at
the end of this documentation), so people "on the road", or that
work from home can use the same information.
* A private reference database for system administrator.
* A "Name/Number/Description" database with a comments field that can
be used for whatever you want, including tracking company property/
equipment, vendor account information, etc.
It can be used on a single PC or network, and can easily be used by
telephone operators, clerks, receptionists, secretaries, sales people,
managers, and anyone else that deals with the phone.
Use this system in your organization for a month, and see if you
don't see an improvement in communication and overall productivity.
This can really make a difference in keeping people in-touch.
The program uses "pop-up windows", and a person can become proficient
in its use in a matter of minutes. It is very "intuitive", and with a
little "play", most features become readily apparent. This cuts down on
training time, and reduces documentation size (amen!). We hate to have
to constantly look things up in manuals, and have made the program very
"friendly"!
Security levels, user ID's and passwords are set up in the section on
setting up the program.
Security levels are 9 to 1, with 1 being the highest level.
Level 9 is a basic browse level, it can do directory look-ups by last name,
and can browse messages, but cannot do full views of directory database
information, such as comments, etc, nor add/change/delete anything.
Level 8 lets you browse more extensively, including full views, but still
can't add/change/delete anything.
Level 7 lets you browse and call reports from the reports menu (Accessable thru
the "Management menu" system), but still cannot add/change/delete
anything.
Level 6 lets you browse, call reports from the reports menu, and lets you
add/change/delete almost everything, except security administration
program. Minimum security level to access appointment calendar
database.
Level 4 lets you access the Name/Number/Description database.
Level 2 lets you have full access to the system, as well as allow you to
and access the private reference database.
Level 1 lets you have full access to the system, as well as the system
administration program (provided to all registered users).
The limit to the number of user ID's that can be active are limited by your
disk space, and once established, users can change their own password
after a successful log-on, without getting the system administrator
involved.
All user IDs consist of three parts:
User name
Password
Security level
Initially the following User name/password combinations are active:

BE SURE TO DELETE ALL UNUSED USERNAMES AND PASSWORDS!
With the "ADMIN" program provided to all registered users, every user on
the system should be assigned their own individual user name and password.
After they are assigned, a user can change their own password without having
to get the system administrator involved. Without the "ADMIN" program, you
can change the passwords at logon (if you know the correct original password)
but cannot create new USERID's.
The program has context-sensitive help, in that practically anywhere you
are in that program help is just a keystroke away (F1).
When you run the program for the first time, you should log on with at least
a level 6 access, as the program creates its own databases that are empty, and
you will need to create them before you can use most of the features. The
program will immediately go to an update window if you try to access an
empty database.
The opening menu has the following options:
Operator scan: Lets you browse thru the directory database by persons last
name, and you van view and modify the phone list database,
using scrolled windows. You can also instantly change an
active message or add a new message, by depressing F8 and
F9 respectively, after going to this mode. Lets you access
the Misc numbers database, Online Reference Library,
Contact and appointment calendar database.
Management menu: Lets you browse thru database by Last name, location,
department, employment status (active former, etc),
phone number, etc, using scrolled windows, and
add/delete/modify the database entries. Also you can
access the menu of reports, that can be sent to your
screen, a printer (LPT1-LPT4), or a disk file for later
word processing. Lets you access the Misc numbers,
Name/Number/Description, and Reference information
(Public and Private) database. Lets you print "Open"
or "Held" messages, or scan "Held" messages, and easily
change "printout status".
Add a message: Lets you add a new message, delete, view, or modify a current
message by LAST NAME in a scrolled window..
View a message: Lets you view or delete only currently active messages using
a scrolled window, by last name.
We suggest that you try out all the features, and put this productivity tool
to work in your operation as soon as possible.

Configuring your system:
You must insure that the "CONFIG.SYS" file in the root directory contains
a statement allowing AT LEAST 70 files to be opened, as follows:
FILES=70
Certain systems will need to increase this number, especially LAN
servers.
It is recommended that a hard drive be used, and all files should be placed
in the same directory.
No special installation is required. Just copy the files to the subdirectory
that you want it to create files in. To execute, type:
CIM.EXE
To execute the system administrators program, (provided to all registered
users) type:
ADMIN.EXE
The system administrators program lets you create, modify, and delete user
ID's, and view and purge the security log.

Special configuration information:
We also have put in an automatic screen saver, so the screen will blank out
after 10 minutes. Just depress a space to un-blank it. You can change it
to a different value, or eliminate the feature entirely, as follows:
CIM V=0 disables the feature
CIM V=5 blanks the screen after 5 minutes
CIM V=X blanks the screen after X number of minutes
To disable the Beep on error feature, just start the program as follows:
CIM /B=NO
To use the program with an enhanced keyboard, with some "compatibles" you
may need to start the program as follows:
CIM /E
If your computer has problems with this program automatically setting keyboard
locking, (some programs and "compatibles don't like it) start the program as
follows:
CIM /L
Many monitors will work better with the "fast video" option. Some CGA monitors
will produce "snow" on the screen when this is used, so you may want to try it
and see if it improves performance. To do so, start the program as follows:
CIM /F
You can also combine options. For example, if you want to disable "beep on
error", and use the "fast video" option, start the program as follows:
CIM /B=N /F

Desqview information:
There is nothing special you have to do to run it under Desqview, other than
make the "MEMORY SIZE" on screen one 420K and the "MAXIMUM PROGRAM MEMORY
SIZE" on the second screen of program options window 640K (even though you
don't have it, and the program won't use it.)
Also note that under Desqview, screen saver and beep on errors are
automatically disabled. to allow them to run in background.

General System Requirements:
The program is compatible with any IBM PC, XT, AT, PS/2 or 100%
compatible, operating on DOS version 2.0 or higher (3.1 recommended
for networks), and having 512K, a monochrome or color monitor,
and virtually any 80 column printer (if you want printed reports.)

File definitions:
These data files(and their respective KEY and MEMO files) are created
when the program is first run:
CROSSREF is for the Name/Number/Description database.
ADDRESS is the contact manager database file.
ANNOUNCE is the main menu opening announcement message file.
APPTS is the calendar/appointment manager database file.
DIRECT is the corporate phone directory file.
LOG is the security log file (unencrypted).
MESSAGE is the phone message database file.
MISCNBRS is the misc phone numbers directory file.
PRIVREF is for the private reference information file.
REFERENC is the public reference information file.
These data files must be present for the program to initially run:
USER.DAT
USER.K01
PHONE.HLP (Online Help file)
Extensions used:
.DAT are the encrypted data files.
.KXX are the index keys for the data files to speed up access.
.MEM are the encrypted memo files for particular databases.

Advanced LAN installations:
Some companies put the program in one subdirectory, and then put a "path"
statement in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Note that files have to be duplicated
in each subdirectory, but this allows the option of discrete message bases
for different departments, as well as different reference information, etc.
Each subdirectory can have its own separate USER ID tables, as another
layer of security.
Example: MD \ONLINE
Copy CIM.EXE and ADMIN.EXE(supplied to registered users)
into that subdirectory.
Add the statement into your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
PATH <drive> \ONLINE
Create subdirectories for each department:
MD \OPERAT
MD \SALES
MD \MGMT
MD \ENGR
etc.
Copy the user and level files (USER.DAT, USER.K01, LEVEL.DAT, LEVEL.K01,
LICENSE.DAT and PHONE.HLP) into each subdirectory. This allows each
department to have its own separate user access, and message bases. They will
type "CIM" from within their own subdirectory. Note that you can let people in
each department administer their own user access, as ADMIN is also available
to all subdirectories, but will only update their own subdirectorys user
tables.
If you want people to have common access to the directory, you must manually
copy the DIRECT.DAT and DIRECT.K01 to each departments subdirectory. Note
that if people manually update the phone directory, the change will only be
to that departments copy of the directory. This can be good or bad, depending
on where you want to place change control, or restrict access to employee
status info, etc. Various other databases can be copied to the approprate
subdirectories, depending on how much information you want "common".
Some servers using DOS version 4.01 may have to include the following
statement in the CONFIG.SYS file only IF you receive the DOS error
"ACCESS DENIED":
INSTALL=C:\SHARE.EXE /L:200 /F:4096
Some LAN's, when more than one copy of the program is executing at
the same time you receive a "Share Violation" error. This can happen on
some LAN's that open executable programs for write access, even though our
program does not have to be opened in that manner, as we do not write to
the executable program file, only data and key files. You may have to
re-flag the .exe file for read only access, either with a LAN command, or
sometimes the DOS attribute command will work. You may want to try:
ATTRIB +R CIM.EXE
This changes the CIM.EXE program file to "read-only" status and many LAN
packages will not try to open it in "Share" mode, and the errors will
disappear. This has worked in most cases, and is not an error in our
program, but in how the LAN protects itself.

This program may be freely distributed, in its unmodified format, as
long as no charge is made, except for a token "disk copying" charge,
not to exceed $10.00.
This program is distributed using the "Shareware" concept. This allows
potential users to try a product before buying it.

evaluation period, please fill out the registration form, enclose a check
or money order the appropriate amount, and mail it to the address indicated.
